Tuesday February 2, 7 pm Eastern time
On February 7, Ecuador holds important national elections. The progressive UNES party is leading in pre-election polls with the possibility of replacing the current rightwing government. Monica Palacios is a UNES party candidate for National Assembly. She is running for the seat that would represent Ecuadorians in North America. She will be interviewed by Joe Emersberger, frequent writer on Ecuador author (with Justin Podur) of forthcoming book Extraordinary Threat : The U.S. Empire, the Media, and Twenty Years of Coup Attempts in Venezuela.
The leading presidential candidate in the election is Andres Arauz of UNES, a political ally of former President Rafael Correa, whose has been a target of a frame-up by present President Lenin Moreno. Arauz’s election would mean Ecuador would return to the orbit of Latin America’s socialist and progressive nations, joining Bolivia, Venezuela, Cuba, and Nicaragua.
There will be simultaneous translation.
