More than 600 Organizations Demand Biden End Sanctions against Venezuela

Más de 600 organizaciones reclaman a Biden cese de sanciones contra Venezuela

More than 600 organizations and social policy in Latin America and the Caribbean, signed a letter addressed to the president of the United States, Joe Biden, in which it called for the immediate cessation of the so-called “sanctions” imposed economic to the country, which called it extortion against a sovereign nation.

ALBA Movements, the MST and the OCLAE, are some of the signatories of this letter that, in addition is also supported by two Nobel Peace prize winners: the Tunisian League for Human Rights and the argentine Adolfo Pérez Esquivel.

The signatories point out that the unilateral coercive measures implemented by EE. UU., in addition to an illegal action, “constitute extortion and an obstacle to the economic and social development” of the Bolivarian nation.

“We call on the Government of the United States under his leadership, to desist from the application of these measures and resume the path of dialogue, peace and mutual respect among nations,” reads part of the text.

Also, expressing your concern for the plots reported by the venezuelan Government and demand that “conduct a thorough and impartial investigation on the involvement of u.s. agents in these acts.”

“These attempts of assassination represent a serious threat to stability and security in Venezuela, as well as for the region as a whole”, they warn.

Letter to President Biden:

Mr. President Biden,

We, the undersigned, wish to express our deep concern about  the regressions  in the scheme of Unilateral Coercive Measures against Venezuela, which we consider a form of extortion of the Venezuelan government   and an obstacle to the economic and social development of the country.

We firmly believe that a relationship can   be built between the United States  and Venezuela where this type of aggression has no place and  the  application of more than 400 direct sanctions against the Bolivarian Republic is abandoned forever. Therefore, we call on the government of the United States, under your leadership, to  desist from the application of these measures and to return to the path of  dialogue, peace and mutual respect among nations.

We would also like  to refer to  the complaint filed by the Venezuelan State in which it is stated that several  assassination plots have been detected and thwarted. These  assassination attempts pose a serious threat to stability and security in Venezuela,  as well as to the region as a whole.

In this regard, as defenders  of human  rights and  justice, we consider it imperative that a thorough and impartial investigation be conducted into the involvement of US agents in these acts.

We sincerely appreciate your attention to these urgent matters and hope that the necessary steps will be taken to address this situation effectively  and in line with the fundamental principles of human  rights and justice.

Kind regards
