(We have received $1675 by the end of the year, and have sent in $4675)
December 19, 2020
Dear Friends of Cuba,
At the end of March 2020 the Canadian Network on Cuba (CNC) launched “the campaign, Support Cuba’s Contribution to World Fight Against COVID-19, to assist the heroic island’s internationalist medical missions that are combatting the pandemic across the world.” Since then they have raised and sent $53,412 (Canadian) to Cuba.
Chicago ALBA Solidarity will aid in this campaign. We will match dollar for dollar your donations to this effort, so that every dollar you contribute is doubled. Our total match limit is $10,000. In 2017 our previous matching campaign resulted in total donations of $22,300 for Cuban hurricane relief.
This present campaign expresses our collective gratitude for the outstanding work of Cuba’s Henry Reeve International Medical Brigade, for its selfless international aid since the outbreak of COVID-19. We strongly support the drive to nominate the Henry Reeve Brigade for the 2021 Nobel Peace Prize.
Keith Ellis, Coordinator, Cuba Against COVID-19 Campaign wrote:
“Cuba and two other countries, Russia and China, are making it clear that economically deprived sectors of humanity will be included among those users of their vaccines against COVID-19. Cuba collaborates with these two countries in the production, packaging and distribution of vaccines against COVID-19, and that would probably ensure Cuba’s supply from these sources. Nevertheless, the Cubans are working to produce their own safe and efficient vaccine for humanity and for themselves, as well they should, with their great historical research record.
“We know of its highly educated, well-mannered, cultured and generous people, who from the beginning of their changed society have faced and peacefully defied the relentless, mainly ruthless, often illegal attacks from the world’s most powerful country.
“Cuba’s scientific and social achievements confirm what we have always known: that Cuba unfailingly uses whatever help it receives from us and from other humanitarian sources and multiplies them for the benefit of humanity.”
The CNC anti-COVID-19 fund is on-going and the CNC will gratefully continue to send collected funds to Cuba.
WHO has officially recognized two Cuban vaccines that are now in the final stage of testing. Unlike the US vaccines, they do not require expensive refrigeration. They will be free to all Cubans and Cuba will offer to needy nations at a reduced cost.
100 percent of all funds raised have been and will be sent to Cuba.
Cheques should be made payable to the CNC and just write Covid 19 on the memo line.
