Venezuela & ALBA News 1.12.2026: Venezuela Acting President Delcy Rodriguez Leads Mobilization of the Nation; US and World Labor Condemn the US Attack

The Grayzone (Max Blumenthal): Behind the DOJ’s politicized indictment of Maduro: a CIA-created ‘network’ and coerced star witness The Department of Justice indictment of Venezuela’s kidnapped leader, Nicolas Maduro, is a political rant that relies heavily on coerced testimony from an unreliable witness. Despite DOJ edits, it could expose more Americans to the CIA’s own history of drug trafficking.

TeleSur: President Maduro Defiant Words from New York, Vows Resistance After US Kidnapping In the brief but powerful statement, Maduro urged supporters not to succumb to despair. “We are well, we are fighters,” he declared—a phrase that has already become a rallying cry across Venezuela. Acting President Delcy Rodríguez, appointed by Venezuela’s Supreme Court to lead the government in Maduro’s absence, has formed a High-Level Commission to pursue his release through legal and political channels. Meanwhile, mass protests continue daily across all 23 states, with citizens demanding the immediate return of their democratically elected leaders.

TeleSur: Seven Days of Defiance: Venezuelan People Demand Maduro’s Release Amid US Aggression Venezuelan people demand Maduro’s release in massive nationwide protests following U.S. military operation and kidnapping of president and first lady. Venezuelan people demand Maduro’s release in a powerful wave of sustained popular resistance that has swept across all 23 states since the US military operation. On Jan. 10, a red tide of workers, students, communal councils, and social movements gathered at Plaza Venezuela. Chanting “¡Venezuela No Se Rinde!” (“Venezuela Does Not Surrender!”), the crowd rejected what they call the “cowardly kidnapping” of their democratically elected leaders. This marks the seventh consecutive day of nationwide mobilizations, each larger and more organized than the last. The protests reflect a highly coordinated effort led by grassroots communes—structures of participatory democracy that have become central to Venezuela’s political fabric.

Dissident Voice (Stansfield Smith): The US Propaganda Campaign to Smear Venezuela’s New President Delcy Rodriguez The US “regime change” operation against Venezuela has been defeated. The Bolivarian Revolution remains firmly in power. Washington’s campaign against the Chavistas attempts to paint Interim President Delcy Rodriguez as compromising on the heritage of Presidents Maduro and Hugo Chavez. Now, not only do we have the US government repudiating the world and international law by invading a country and seizing its president for admitted concocted reasons. We must face the fact that the US psyops system continues to be so effective that it is able to dupe leading long-time opponents of the US empire into being mouthpieces for its own “regime change” propaganda.

Orinoco Tribune: Venezuela’s Acting President Rodríguez Dismisses US Narrative of Control, Vows to Rescue President Maduro “Who leads the Venezuelan people? The people’s power. Who governs Venezuela? The people’s power and its constitutional government,” declared Venezuela’s Acting President Delcy Rodríguez.  “So there is no doubt here, no uncertainty here … The Venezuelan people rule here, and there is a government, the government of President Nicolás Maduro, and I have the responsibility to lead it while he is being held captive. That is the message for all of Venezuela.” Rodríguez’s statements come as US President Donald Trump and mainstream media attempt daily to impose a narrative alleging that the US regime is ruling Venezuela.

Caitlin Johnstone: The Imperial Crosshairs Move To Cuba, And Other Notes Trump is posting threats to Cuba on his social media platforms, saying that Havana had better start negotiating with Washington now that the US is in control of Venezuela, because their oil supply is going to be cut off. It’s incredible how rapidly the empire has been shoving through longstanding regional domination agendas in the middle east and Latin America since late 2023. Incinerating Gaza. Decapitating Hezbollah. Regime change in Syria. Bombings and regime change ops in Iran. Kidnapping Maduro. Now moving on Cuba.

Labor Against the War on Venezuela

National Nurses United condemn Trump’s unilateral military action against Venezuela National Nurses United, the largest US union of registered nurses, strongly condemning the Trump administration’s illegal invasion of and regime change operation in Venezuela, issued the following statement: Nurses across the country are outraged that the Trump administration has ignored the Constitution and committed an imperialist act of war over the weekend without approval from Congress and without backing from our patients, working class people across the United States who are already struggling here at home to afford basic necessities such as health care, food, and housing….

Communications Workers of America (CWA) stand in solidarity with the international labor community to condemn the unconstitutional military action in Venezuela The attack ordered by the Trump administration was not simply an attack on a foreign country — it was an attack on our constitutional order. To keep our democracy free of would-be kings, only Congress holds the power to wage war. But with this unauthorized attack, the Trump administration has usurped the constitutional power of Congress and undermined the democratic voice of the American people.

International labor movement condemns U.S. aggression against Venezuela Within the US, the AFL-CIO condemned the military aggression against Venezuela and the violation of its sovereignty. “We join the international labor community in condemning President Trump’s unconstitutional actions in Venezuela.” They called for respect for the Venezuelan people’s right to self-determination and a return to peaceful dialogue. The Labor Council for Latin American Advancement (LCLAA), the federation’s constituency group for Spanish-speaking workers, said: “LCLAA joins the national and international labor movement in condemning unconstitutional actions in Venezuela.” “The use of the U.S. military to carry out lethal attacks on fishing boats and seize oil tankers amounts to simple murder and piracy,” said the United Electrical Workers in a December statement headlined No More Blood for Oil.

Labor Notes: ‘No More Blood for Oil’: Global Labor Movement Opposes Trump’s Attacks on Venezuela “We join the international labor community in condemning President Trump’s unconstitutional actions in Venezuela,” said the AFL-CIO. “The use of the U.S. military to carry out lethal attacks on fishing boats and seize oil tankers amounts to simple murder and piracy,” said the United Electrical Workers in a December statement headlined No More Blood for Oil. The Professional Staff Congress (PSC), representing 30,000 faculty and staff of the City University of New York (CUNY), passed a resolution opposing U.S. aggression against Venezuela. The May Day Strong Coalition, a group of unions and community organizations organizing against Trump’s billionaire agenda, stated “Millions are losing health care coverage, grocery prices are rising and we can’t pay our rent, but Trump would rather occupy Venezuela for big oil.” “Remember, today it is us, tomorrow it could be any other nation on the planet,” said the executive committee of the Bolivarian National Union of Postal Workers of Venezuela in a statement. “We expect your solidarity, mobilization, and international support so that, with renewed determination, we can continue fighting the most genocidal empire in the history of humankind.”

The International Transport Workers’ Federation (ITF) firmly and unequivocally oppose the US military invasion carried out against VenezuelaThis act threatens Venezuela’s political and social stability, endangers regional and international peace, and places the lives and human rights of millions of innocent people at risk, said Paddy Crumlin, President of the ITF. “There is no justification for armed intervention. These actions impede on international law and set a destabilising precedent for the world in undermining democracy and along with that trade union rights and freedoms.” The International Trade Union Confederation (ITUC) and the Trade Union Confederation of the Americas (TUCA) have issued an absolute rejection of the US military attack on Venezuela condemning it as a violation of international law, rejecting any attempt at regime change by force or foreign interference, demanding full guarantees for the life and immediate release of President Maduro and Cilia Flores.
