Venezuela & ALBA News 10.20.2025: Now 8 Million in Venezuela’s popular militias, ready to repel US attack

Orinoco Tribune: Venezuela: Militia Swells to 8 Million, International Supporters Pledge to Join Militia membership has grown from five million to more than eight million people. Delegations from more than 20 countries have pledged to join Venezuela’s National Bolivarian Militia to demonstrate their solidarity against US threats. “That a comrade from another country says, ‘The cause of Venezuela is my cause’… has a value for us,” General Secretary of the PSUV Cabello said. “We fight for our independence, for our sovereignty, for peace, for our people, but also, in the end, we fight for peace, for the independence of the peoples of the Americas.”

Mision Verdad: Venezuela: The Second Stage of Economic Stabilization The Gross Domestic Product in the third quarter 2025 increased 8.71% compared to third quarter 2024. There have been 18 consecutive quarters in which the economy has grown.  In the third quarter, Venezuela had 16.12% growth in oil activity and 6.12% growth in non-oil activity. Venezuela has now surpassed the production threshold of 1.1 million barrels of oil per day. Regarding non-oil activities, the largest economic increases were: 16.40% in the Construction sector; 9.35% in Transportation and Storage; 8.98% in Manufacturing; 8.19% in Commerce; 7.08% in Mining; 6.78% in Accommodation and Food Services; 6.60% in Real Estate, Professional, Scientific, Technical, Administrative, and Support Activities; and 6.11% in Agriculture. The process of import substitution and export diversification has seen a surge this year. According to government data, non-oil exports showed significant growth, increasing by 87.66% between January and April 2025.

The Grayzone:  Jordan Goudreau exposes US gov’t role in disastrous Venezuela coup plot Lampooned in the media for his failed “Bay of Piglets” plot, Goudreau insists he was the scapegoat for clandestine 2020 Operation Gideon. Goudreau details previously unseen court documents and FBI files containing testimony of those involved in the plan to invade Venezuela and overthrow President Maduro.

TeleSur: Russia Expresses Concern About Potential Weaponization of New UN Mission in Haiti Against Venezuela Russia expressed concern over the UN Security Council Resolution 2793, which transforms the Multinational Security Support Mission in Haiti into a “Gang Repression Force,” stating that this measure could be a precedent for similar actions in other countries, such as Venezuela. Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova said the resolution grants the new forces a status “virtually independent of national and international control,” with an “almost unlimited” mandate to use force against anyone or any group that the US and its allies classify as “gangs.” She decried that Washington has spread unfounded stories linking alleged Venezuelan cartels to Haitian criminal gangs.

Becca Renk: Why Portland & Venezuela Are In Washington’s Crosshairs The real threat that Portland represents is not anarchy, but the opposite: government working together with its populace to create a welcoming, supportive community. Portland is proof to America that it is still possible to work together to benefit everyone in our society. The consequences of a policy of unleashing the “full force” of the military on all those who disagree with Trump are deadly serious, wherever they happen.

We are seeing that this strategy to intervene and subjugate peaceful cities like Portland and Chicago is actually modeled after the strategy that has been used to attempt to subjugate the peaceful country of Venezuela for years: manufacture stories of crime without proof and send in troops, allegedly to make the target safe, but the real goal is domination. In the case of Portland, the “crime” is the nonexistent violent protests. In the case of Venezuela, the “crime” is non-existent drug cartels trafficking along Caribbean routes that the UN and even the DEA say don’t exist.

Over 50 Human Rights, Faith, Veterans and Foreign Policy Groups Call on Congress to Stop President Trump’s Aggression in the Caribbean More than 50 human rights, and other organizations sent a letter to members of Congress urging them to act quickly to end the Trump administration’s lethal attacks and mounting military campaign in the Caribbean. The organizations are also calling for diplomacy over hostility, a reduction in the U.S. military build-up in the region, and compensation for the families of victims of these extrajudicial killings. Read the full letter in English and in Spanish, with signers.

Senate voting record October 8 on War Powers Resolution to put a check on President Trump’s ability to use deadly military force against drug cartels 48 Yes, 51 No.

Struggle/La Lucha: Havana mobilizes in defense of Venezuela At sunrise, tens of thousands filled Havana’s Avenida de los Presidentes, gathering at the Simón Bolívar Monument in a powerful show of solidarity with Venezuela. Over 4.3 million Cubans — nearly half of the population — signed a national declaration backing Bolivarian Venezuela and condemning U.S. war and intervention. President Maduro, in Venezuela, responded, “You cannot imagine how important it is for our people to feel the love and solidarity of the Cuban people.” Chants of “¡Cuba y Venezuela, unidas vencerán!” rolled through the crowd.

Popular Resistance: Warfare for Venezuela and Welfare for Argentina Bolivarian Venezuela and Milei’s Argentina present two starkly different paths for Latin America—Venezuela’s sovereign defiance of US imperialism and Argentina’s deepening subservience and dependency, and now $450 billion in debt. One suffers imperial “hybrid warfare” while the other gains imperial “welfare.”  Washington uses coercive tools—sanctions, economic warfare, and military threats—to preserve hemispheric dominance. Venezuela embodies resistance and regional integration. Argentina, under Milei, epitomizes the collapse into “narco-capitalism,” social devastation, and foreign subjection.

Orinoco Tribune: Nobel Peace Prize Laureate Machado Congratulates Netanyahu for Genocide in Gaza On October 17, Machado praised Netanyahu’s actions in Gaza, which she described as “decisive” and which resulted in the killing of over 68,000 Palestinians, including more than 20,000 children.

Venezuelanalysis: Trinidadian Civilians Killed in US Airstrike as Trump Expands Bombing Campaign Near Venezuela The two men from Trinidad and Tobago were among six victims of a US airstrike that destroyed a boat off the coast of Venezuela. Trump said the strike, the fifth confirmed hit since the bombing campaign began in September, was targeting a vessel carrying drugs but did not offer any proof. Families of the victims said the men were fishermen, not smugglers.
