Orinoco Tribune: Venezuela to Declare State of External Unrest After Trump Vows to Blow President Maduro ‘Out of Existence’ Hours after US President Donald Trump threatened to “blow out of existence” the Venezuelan president, Nicolás Maduro announced the government is proposing a decree to declare a state of external unrest. This follows the Venezuelan Constitution, Article 338: “A state of internal or external commotion may be declared in the event of an internal or external conflict seriously endangering the security of the nation, its citizens, or its institutions. Such state of commotion shall last for up to 90 days and may be extended for an additional 90 days.” At the UN, Trump had said, “We’ve recently begun using the supreme power of the United States military to destroy Venezuelan terrorists and trafficking networks led by Nicolás Maduro. To every terrorist thug smuggling poisonous drugs into the United States of America, please be warned that we will blow you out of existence.”
Common Dreams: ‘No War Crimes Are Off Limits’ as Trump Reportedly Mulling Bombing Targets in Venezuela On September 26, NBC News reported the Trump administration may strike alleged drug targets inside Venezuela’s borders within weeks. If approved, the strikes would be a further escalation following three US attacks on alleged drug-carrying boats in the Caribbean that have killed at least 17 people, even though the US has provided no evidence that those killed were actually smuggling drugs.
Venezuelanalysis: Trump plans $400 million toward countering Venezuela, Cuba, Nicaragua A recent US government document revealed the Trump administration plans to redirect $1.8 billion in foreign aid toward a new “America First” strategy, and prioritize neutralizing “Marxist, anti-American regimes” in Latin America. Reuters reported $400 million would support activities to end illegal immigration to the US, counter China, and “confront the Marxist, anti-American regimes of Venezuela, Cuba and Nicaragua.” The document, known as a Congressional Notification, follows news that the upcoming National Defense Strategy will also mark a pivot for the US away from a focus on adversaries like China and Russia to instead prioritize efforts in the Americas.
