Venezuela & ALBA News 8.18.2025: Bolivia – Another Example of Left Disunity Handing a Victory to the US Rulers; New US War Plans against Venezuela

Bolivia

TeleSur: The Dreadful Division of the Left in Bolivia Paves the Way for the Right This Sunday marked a significant setback in Bolivia. The detrimental division among the country’s popular and leftist forces has opened doors for right-wing candidates. Two right-wing candidates will compete in the second round run-off of the presidential election. Bolivia now joins Ecuador, Peru, and Argentina, where progressive and anti-imperialist governments fell to pro-US empire leaders, all with disastrous results for their peoples.

William Camacaro: Washington’s Escalating War on Venezuela: Narco-Myths and Imperial Designs  On June 12, 2024, newspapers published Donald Trump’s incredibly candid admission: “When I left, Venezuela was ready to collapse. We would have taken all the oil.” The threat to Venezuelan security is no exaggeration as seen in at least 20 terrorist plots uncovered in the past year.

Washington is preparing public opinion for new aggression by portraying President Maduro as a narcotrafficker, putting a $50 million bounty his head. The US claimed “Cartel of the Suns” is a terrorist entity headed by President Maduro, and also that he has a relationship with the Tren de Aragua and the Sinaloa Cartel, and accused them of being “violent narco-terrorists.” President Trump ordered the possible use of US military against drug cartels and authorized military intervention in countries with drug trafficking. The presidents of Mexico, Cuba, Honduras, Nicaragua, Colombia, Bolivia and Venezuela all said there was no evidence for the US claims. United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime in its World Drug Report, states that Colombia, Peru, and Bolivia are the main cocaine producers.

Washington demonstrates its contempt for the people of the Global South by treating their presidents as its pawns, making accusations without any evidence, and imposing unilateral and illegal sanctions against those who resist imperial domination. This latest accusation should remind us of the allegations of the existence of weapons of mass destruction that served as an excuse to destroy Iraq, murder a million people, and deprive the nation of control over their natural resources. The hypocrisy of the narco-mythology is blatant. Secretary of State Marco Rubio has supported former Colombian President Álvaro Uribe, particularly with Uribe’s recent conviction for witness tampering and bribery. The US State Department in 1991 designated Uribe as a major drug trafficker, a member of the cartel of Medellin and a personal friend of Pablo Escobar.

TeleSur: Venezuela Contained 20 Terrorist Attacks Over the Past Year: Minister Cabello  “These attacks intensified after the July 28, 2024, elections in which President Nicolas Maduro was reelected,” he said, emphasizing that the acts of the Venezuelan far right have crossed “the limits of what is acceptable.” These uncovered terrorist plots involving business sectors and opposition figures in plans to attack oil facilities, the power grid, health centers and other public places. Cabello confirmed recent arrests of individuals who attempted to carry out a bomb attack against him at Venezuela Square in Caracas on August 10. Minister Cabello said that Venezuela has seized 70% of the drugs attempting to pass through its territory; so far this year, nearly 52 tons were confiscated. Maduro emphasized that the country has reached a record for seizures.

Orinoco Tribune: President Petro calls urgent Latin America meeting amid threats of aggression from US empire Colombian President Gustavo Petro has requested an urgent meeting with foreign ministers from Latin America, amid threats of aggression and interference by the government of the US empire. “We will not betray the flag,” he said. “It is a flag of sovereignty and freedom, no matter what happens.” President Petro stated this August 12, that the meeting must be held as soon as possible due to the recent nature of the threats, and did not hesitate to compare them with the situation in Gaza: “They have threatened us because they want to attack the homeland of Bolívar, like in Gaza.” Petro warned that any intervention or action against Venezuela would be considered aggression against Colombia and all of Latin America, arguing that Colombia and Venezuela share the “same history and are the same people.”

Venezuelanalysis: Venezuelans Reject US Military Threats, ‘Narcoterrorism’ Allegations in Anti-Imperialist March Thousands of Venezuelans marched Monday to denounce the Trump administration’s latest aggression against their government. Last week Washington offered a $50 million reward for President Maduro. The Great Anti-Imperialist March in defense of Venezuela was organized by the ruling Socialist Party (PSUV) in several cities nationwide. US authorities have released no evidence to back the narcoterrorism charges against President Maduro and other officials.

Resumen Latinoamericano: Honduras: Support for Maduro in the Face of “Unfounded Attacks” from the US Honduran President Xiomara Castro rejected recent US attacks against Venezuelan President Maduro, rejecting the accusations that he a drug trafficker and reaffirmed its support for the principle of self-determination of the Venezuelan people. She also joined international criticism of the $50 million reward offered by the US for the capture of Maduro. “The State of Honduras categorically rejects the accusations against President Nicolás Maduro and expresses its total solidarity with the Venezuelan people and their president in the face of the unfounded attacks he is facing. We reaffirm our commitment to the self-determination of peoples and respect for international law.”

Granma: Palestine, a cause of Fidel “The basis for a just peace in the region begins with Israel’s total and unconditional withdrawal from all occupied Arab territories and for the Palestinian people, the return of all their occupied territories and the restoration of their inalienable national rights, including the right of return to their homeland, self-determination, and the establishment of an independent state in Palestine, following General Assembly Resolution 3236,” Fidel said in his speech October 12, 1979 at the United Nations General Assembly.

“We repudiate with all our strength the ruthless persecution and genocide that Nazism unleashed against the Jewish people in its time. But I can think of nothing more similar in our contemporary history than the eviction, persecution, and genocide that imperialism and Zionism are carrying out today against the Palestinian people. Stripped of their lands, expelled from their homeland, scattered throughout the world, persecuted and murdered, the heroic Palestinians are an impressive example of self-sacrifice and patriotism, and they are the living symbol of the greatest crime of our time.”

“Can anyone be surprised that the Conference (of the Non-Aligned Movement), for reasons that do not arise from any political prejudice but from an objective analysis of the facts, was forced to point out that the United States policy plays a fundamental role in preventing the establishment of a just and complete peace in the region, by aligning itself with Israel, supporting it and working to obtain partial solutions favorable to Zionist objectives and guaranteeing the fruits of Israeli aggression at the expense of the Arab people of Palestine and the entire Arab nation?” On The Shoulders Of Giants: Full Fidel Castro 1979 Address To The United Nations
