Documentary: Hugo Chavez, a Revolutionary in Power (1992-2013)
Resumen Latinoamericano: Venezuela: Chavez’s Legacy Lives on in His People On March 5 the Venezuelan people took to the streets to remember Bolivarian leader Hugo Chavez, on the 12th anniversary of his physical departure from cancer. From different points of Caracas, Venezuelans united in a great march that advanced through the main avenues of Caracas to the Cuartel de la Montaña 4F, where the mortal remains of the leader who left an indelible mark on the history of Venezuela and Latin America rest. “We are all Chavez!” was heard among the crowd, where there were no laments, but joviality, because the legacy, life and work of Comandante Chavez remains alive in his people.
President Maduro: Chávez’s Revolutionary Project is on the Right Side of History Chavez died on March 5, 2013, at the age of 58. President Maduro:“Twelve years have passed since that shocking blow—perhaps the strongest since the death of the Liberator Simon Bolivar—that the Venezuelan people, the Great Homeland, and the world received: the physical departure of our eternal Commander Hugo Chavez….We transformed the terrible pain of those hours, days, and years into love, strength, courage, and bravery, and we firmly united to overcome, lift our heads toward the horizon, and continue marching with the conviction that we are on the right side of history, building the Bolivarian project….Chavez was sown in our conscience, minds, and pure souls. We have not failed him, and we will never fail him. Long live his memory and legacy forever!”
Francisco Dominguez, Roger Harris: Southcom Commander Asserts US Hegemony in South America Admiral Alvin Hosley demonstrated selective outrage over the fear of multipolarity in the Western Hemisphere. Foremost of the threats is the “methodical incursion into the region” by China, secondarily by Russia, and a distant third by Iran. Hosley charged China with a “long-term global campaign to become the world’s dominant strategic power in the Western Hemisphere” and Russia with continuing support for “anti-American authoritarian regimes” and spreading “misinformation throughout the region.” Meanwhile, the “theocratic regime” in Iran “seeks to build political, military, and economic clout in Latin America… where it believes cooperation is achievable.” Unlike the US with 76 regional military bases, neither China nor Russia has formal alliances, joint command structures, or large-scale military agreements in the region. In contrast, Colombia is a NATO “global partner,” Argentina and Brazil are “major non-NATO Allies,” and Chile is a key cooperator with NATO. The US is making Guyana a military hotspot, while the US occupation of Cuba with the Guantánamo naval base is rendered invisible. The US is not prepared to accept that sovereign and independent nations enter into beneficial trade agreements about their raw materials and infrastructure and join multipolar bodies such as BRI and BRICS. The ultimate logic of US policy is to prevent the region from being part of a multipolar world.
Resumen Latinoamericano: Venezuela. Caricom is Singing from the Same Hymn Sheet as Guyana and Exxon MobilExecutive Vice-President of Venezuela Delcy Rodríguez, denounced the bureaucrats of the countries of the Caribbean Community (Caricom), behind the backs of the heads of government of the organization, are singing the praises of Guyana and Exxon Mobil and endorsing the Southern Command in the face of the aggression against Venezuela. She urged the Caribbean countries to play a constructive role in this “territorial dispossession artificially created by ancient empires” and “to prevent the region from entering into a conflict whose sole objective is to legitimize the energy voracity of Exxon Mobil”.
Radio Havana Cuba: Donald Trump threatens Palestinians, giving them what he says is the last chance to leave Gaza or dieIn a social media post on March 5, Trump renewed his warning that there would be “hell to pay” if the captives are not released. “This is your last warning! For the leadership, now is the time to leave Gaza, while you still have a chance.” “Also, to the People of Gaza: A beautiful Future awaits, but not if you hold Hostages. If you do, you are DEAD! Make a SMART decision…I am sending Israel everything it needs to finish the job, not a single Hamas member will be safe if you don’t do as I say.”
Al Mayadeen: Venezuela to maintain oil production despite latest US anti-Chevron orderVenezuela will continue producing oil, President Nicolas Maduro stated on Wednesday, only a day after his American counterpart Donald Trump ordered energy giant Chevron to halt all operations in the country. The US ordered Chevron to halt its operations within 30 days, an arbitrary timeframe the industry considers “unrealistic”. Chevron produces at least a million barrels of crude daily and exports 250,000, generating significant revenue for Venezuela. For Maduro, it would mean an immediate depletion of already scarce foreign reserves, cutting off an estimated $150-200 million per month.
Peoples Dispatch: Trial against ousted president Pedro Castillo begins in PeruThe accusations against Castillo are based on a speech in which he called for a Constituent Assembly. Castillo affirms that this is a rigged trial to destroy the democratic option of the Peruvian people. The trial against former Peruvian President Pedro Castillo began in Peru on March 4. Castillo is accused of rebellion, abuse of authority, and disturbing the public peace for allegedly attempting to dissolve the National Congress at the end of 2022. Castillo has been held in jail for over two years since his dismissal by the Congress. Regarding the trial against Castillo, Colombian President Gustavo Petro said “This trial of a president of the republic is for being poor and leftist. An insult to the American Convention on Human Rights and an insult to democracy. The popular will that elected him president was mocked.”
President Claudia Sheinbaum: Mexico Demands Respect From the US “Cooperation and coordination, yes; subordination, never,” Sheinbaum stated. “Let the people of Mexico and the entire world also know that Mexico is a great country of brave men and women, that we are a free, independent, and sovereign nation, and that Mexico is respected anywhere in the world.” Meanwhile, after the latest call between Sheinbaum and Trump, Trump again delayed tariffs for another month.
